The Hobbit, or, There and Back Again (1937)
A small piece of advice from your webmaster who is a Tolkien
fanatic... If you have children and are about to introduce them
to Tolkien, please read it aloud to them for the first time.
The book was meant to be read aloud, and performed this way
they will acquire an everlasting love of Tolkien's works. I
still, today, give live readings to ADULTS who
have never read the book; and I have yet to have a dis-satisfied
customer.

Concerning this listing
All books up to "Bilbo's Last Song" are solely the work of John
Ronald Reuel Tolkien and consist exclusively of his writings
concerned with Middle-Earth. Works from "The Silmarillion" onwards
are from his unedited notes; assembled, edited and annotated
by his son Christopher. Some of the works have, in whole or
in part, been printed before in magazines, compilations and
scholarly dissertations (e.g. "Leaf by Niggle". In Dublin Review
- January 1945); and, of course there are multiple different
editions, printings etc... If you wish to have a fully detailed
listing of all his writings, please visit
A Chronological
Bibliography of the Writings of J.R.R. Tolkien, which is
an incredible web-page of everything written by and about him;
compiled by Åke Bertenstam, giving full and exact details of
when and where published. |
